Overview of the Wet Glass Material

Contents

The package comes with a master wet glass material and two material instances with different parameter settings.

All the textures needed are included and Starter contents are not necessary.

Note that some of the texts are written in Japanese because the creator used Japanese version of Unreal Engine. So you may encounter some text garbling, but everything should work just fine.

Features

You can customize parameters such as:

  • – Tiling of rain animation
  • – Amount of scroll of rain animation
  • – Tiling of rain drops
  • – Amount of scroll of rain drops
  • – Several tweaks for a normal map
  • – Highlighting and location of shadow

and many more.

Thoughts

Wet glass materal can get heavy because it’s a transparent material. Some materials I have seen has too many instructions for what it is. In this case, you would probably need to cut off some of the functions. However the master material is fairly optimized while keeping the flexibility to adjust lots of parameters, which is great for workflow. Also you can most likely use them for PC games with stable performance, but that is entirely counted on how you use them. Above all, it’s a good example material to learn more of UE4 material setup as well if you wanted to create your own original glass materials for your games.

Last but not least, I have talked about how UE4 rendering works in this article. Please check it out if you haven’t already.
